Meet Abdelali Lakhdar
Ali was born in Casablanca. After his studies at the École normale supérieure, he became a mathematics teacher in Morocco. Then, one day, he decided to continue his studies at the University of Dresden, in Germany. Over the course of his career, he taught mathematics at almost every school and professional level, before becoming an educationalist.
In every classroom, Ali has always loved to invent: an image, a game, a trick... anything that can help students understand mathematics better. For him, there is always a simpler path, and he loves to look for it.
With Agafay Books, he continues this approach by creating a collection that is close to his heart: Bab El-Jabr, an open door to the world of numbers and signs.
His first book, Le Sage Zéro (The Wise Zero), is very much like him. In it, we meet a nomad passing through the kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, who reveals to children why this little zero, which seems worth nothing, can change everything and open the doors to infinity. Book after book, the same nomad will travel across Morocco and meet other mathematical signs, each bringing new discoveries.
Like his character, Ali has travelled a lot and loves to pass on what he knows. His wish is simple: that children discover that mathematics is not a mountain to climb with apprehension, but an exciting journey that makes you want to keep going.
